By default we open ourselves up for scrutiny and criticism by putting our lives out on YouTube every Saturday. And 'par for the course' are the public comments, private messages and emails we receive weekly which are generally positive and helpful.
However there are always a small amount of negative and occasionally nasty comments and we have no way of knowing whether the people behind the comments are experienced old salts offering advice and the benefit of their experience. Armchair sailors who are great at theory but have no actual practical experience, or just miserable people who like to troll and be nasty because it makes them feel better about their sad lives.
In the beginning we used to get quite fired up by "trollish" comments, but now we just laugh and move along because the truth of the matter is, that nobody criticises us more harshly than we do ourselves.
The Goldilocks anchorage
After editing and proofing this week's video I asked Aannsha "Am I too cautious when choosing an anchorage?"
It's a difficult question to answer because there are many factors that I take into consideration when choosing an anchorage. It's all well and good finding an anchorage that offers protection from the wind and swell through a combination of looking at the wind prediction websites, Google Earth and other apps. But what looks good in theory may not be the case in reality and when we arrive at the chosen anchorage things may look a lot different.
This was the case in this week's video where we poked the nose of A B Sea into three anchorages and decided they were not suitable. Then actually dropped our anchor in a fourth anchorage where we stayed for just 10 minutes before I decided I wasn't happy with it. We then moved on to a couple of other spots, which I rejected until finally we found the right one.
When we started the day we thought we'd be anchored and finishing off our blogs by lunchtime. As it turned out, it was closer to 4.30pm before we finally settled into the Goldilocks anchorage. Still enough time to get things finished and uploaded to the Interwebs. That's when we discovered that our Internet data package had run out and we began the search for a nearby Turkcell store to buy more data. This, in part, is the life of a YouTuber.
